Now that we clearly understand that most patients diagnosed with IC and/or bladder pain syndrome do NOT have a bladder disease, but rather struggle with tight, hypertonic pelvic floor muscles, we're exploring the best strategies for muscle treatment.

In early 2024, new guidelines for the treatment of hypertonic (tight) pelvic floor muscles were released. It provides a simple three step treatment protocol that we review in this video, including: hands on physical therapy, vaginal suppositories, trigger point injections, BOTOX and, as a last resort and for very specific patients, sacral neuromodulation.

This is a fabulous new resource to share with your practitioners that validates the need for physical therapy, the importance of finding properly trained physical therapies and options to explore when physical therapy isn't effective.
