The first few days after major surgery are never easy. I fainted twice the first morning after draining the drains. I just felt queasy and then silently slid to the floor, not once but twice.
I had my first look under the bandages last night and it took my breath away. It's such a shock to see your body so drastically changed. I felt very weak afterwards but a shower felt very good.
I don't remember much about the day of surgery. I remember going to the hospital to have the tracer shot in my left breast. I remember going to the outpatient building afterwards and then walking back into the surgical suite where I met the nurse, a very nice man. Had a talk with the anesthesiologist about protecting my jaw as much as possible.... and that's it. That's all I remember until waking up at home. My sister said I was thoroughly lucid and talking on the drive home but I've just got no memory of that at all. LOL.
If there's one thing that I want this video to accomplish is to encourage men and women to act early if they find anything suspicious in their breast. The earlier you catch it, the easier it is to treat my friends. I shudder to think of what could have happened if I had waited until Fall. That could have given it time to spread into my lymph nodes and throughout my body. I'm so thankful that we caught it as early as we did.
Get those mammograms! Don't be afraid. JUST DO IT!
