I was talking with a client with a sister who had found a large lump in her breast, literally the size of a walnut, and she still had not gone to the doctor. Her fear of a potential diagnosis of breast cancer was stopping her from potentially getting treatment that could save her life.
Yes, there are times when we all need to check out, to find a safe and secure place where we can cuddle up in a corner with a book and just breathe. But, there are other times when we must, we must, be proactive and get help. Please don't be passive... please be assertive and aggressive if neccesary to get the care that you need. Why? Because there are stories from young patients who felt something unusual in their breast and were told that they were too young to have cancer. Yet, it was and the wait allowed the disease to progress and, for some, to take their lives.
There is no shame in asking for help. There is no blame in pushing back on a health care system that is not listening to you.
