Shoulder pressing with a barbell is not great for shoulder health because of the spinal extension that is likely to occur as the bar moves up overhead. Healthy shoulders sit on a spine that is not in an extended state. Non-extension requires one side of the body to move opposite the other side. Dumbbell presses with a dumbbell or kettlebell satisfy that requirement.
