What do you dislike most about the U.S.?
The lax gun laws and the adoration of guns, the healthcare system that's run for profit, the two-party winner-take-all corporate duopoly in the political system, a government that's more concerned about the interests of big businesses than average citizens, the general apathy and a lack of awareness about the rest of the world, the hyper-individualistic mindset of many Americans, the unjust prison system, and the lax workers' rights.
I love America. It is my home and my country. But if I could change these things in the snap of my fingers, I would do so right now.
The backwardness.
Whenever I travel abroad, the first thing that strikes me when I get home is how provincial we are here. And we're proud of it!
Our culture is insanely anti-intellectual. “Elite” is a slur here, not a compliment. But try to tell a street sweeper in Spain that he's uneducated and you might have a fight on your hands.
It's not cool for students to get excellent grades. We even have a term, “gentleman’s C”, in praise of academic mediocrity.
An understanding of other cultures is met with suspicion. People get attacked for speaking a language other than English in public.
It's insane. We're the richest nation on earth, the spearhead of modernization, a cosmopolitan nation of immigrants, and we act like a bunch of hicks from some obscure backwater.
I don't understand it. I truly do not.
The hypocrites who claim to be defending America but who are actually destroying it.
For example, the war in Ukraine has nothing to do with American security. Nothing. The Russians are no threat to us. Nevertheless, the U.S. meddles in Russian and Ukrainian affairs to serve the interests of the wealthy elites in America. But the needs of the elites are not the same as those of America itself.
There are people who would gladly silence political dissenters by de-platforming them, for what? So they won’t speak against the pro-war narrative? Do you really love your fucking war that much? Is that an essential American interest? No. Not at all.
But in the rabid desire to crush dissent, the Constitution and its values get put through the shredder. That doesn’t save America. That hurts America. It is deeply anti-American.
I find it incredibly ironic that Alexander Finnegan, a communist, loves America more than these anti-dissent crusaders. Maybe we communists wouldn’t have so much to disagree with if these elites weren’t so anti-American.
Frankly, I don’t think Joe Biden cares about America. He is doubling down on sanctions that will ruin the American economy, and he is endangering relations we need to maintain a sense of real security. Now, he has Obama shilling his anti-freedom of expression and thought program. That is really sad.
Meanwhile, nobody cares. That is the worst. Joe Biden has become AIDS for America.
