Let's be honest: general setup is often overlooked. It's seen as irrelevant and a pain in the neck - a hurdle you need to jump over to get to the important stuff. Most people would say the faster it's over, the better. With Launchrock, this isn't the case - at least it shouldn't be the case.

Here's why: General setup is powerful and packs a lot under the hood. It offers a bunch of small tools that can have a big impact on page optimization. It's anything but a hurdle. In fact, it's a building block that you can't do without.

Here are four ways to use general setup for page optimization - and love the results.

To start, access the setup menu. Within site manager, click “Setup” on the left-hand side of the screen. Various sections appear:
general, domain, SEO, and scripts. Optimizing each is straightforward, so let's start.

1. Optimizing General Options
The General Options tab impacts areas from search performance to appearance. To access this section, click on the General tab.

1.Tags. Tags are descriptive labels - kinda like a sticky note. Launchrock uses tags to help find and display pages in its Discover Community (launchrock.com/discover). The Community is a great place to find landing page inspiration and design examples. To join or decline, toggle the Privacy setting found below the Favicon section. Members can add up to 6 tags in the tag box to help with search results. For help creating tags, take a look at http://tagsgenerator.com/.

2. Favicons. Favicons are the image found here, on a page’s tab. Although small, Favicons help add a touch of professionalism to a page. So, take the time to create a unique favicon - an easy way to begin is by using a logo. To upload a favicon, click on the "Pick a File" button. For help and inspiration, visit http://realfavicongenerator.net/.

3. Privacy. As mentioned above, “Privacy” controls membership in the Discover Community. To join, select "public" by toggling the switch. To pass, select "private."

4. Status. Status controls the state of a page: pages are either in draft mode or published mode. Draft pages are personal, and only accessible within editing mode. Published pages are live, and are accessible to anyone. Use the switch to toggle between states. If a mistake happens, don't panic! To change status, toggle back to draft. Live pages hosted by Launchrock will return to draft mode, and only be visible to the editor.

2. Optimizing Domain Settings
The domain tab is where hosting decisions happen. Hosting impacts site control, loading time, and more. To access this section, click on Domain.

Launchrock provides two hosting options. The first is free hosting with Launchrock. With this option, Launchrock provides a subdomain, which might look something like this: www.mysite.launchrock.com. To select this option, enter the domain details in the box provided. The second option is to use a privately hosted domain, such as www.mysite.com.
Both options have pros and cons, such as cost, setup time, expertise, and control. Each factor will have to assessed to come to a decision. If you use GoDaddy hosting, you might find our video on "Pointing From GoDaddy" helpful. Check it out.

3. Optimizing SEO Settings
Search engines need information to rank a website. This section helps provide that information. To access this section, click on SEO.

1. Page Title. A page title is like a seatbelt: it isn't flashy or headline-worthy, but it makes a big difference. Search engines place a heavy emphasis on page titles, so it is important to craft a solid title. Plus, a page title is visible in search results, and is often the first interaction a user has with a website. So, make it a beauty. Take the time to craft a strong, descriptive and creative title. When done, enter the title in the “Title” box.

2. Page Description. A page description is just as important as a page title. On a basic level, search engines use page descriptions to understand what a page is about. And sometimes (but not always), page descriptions are visible to viewers. So, when crafting a description, take it slow and be thoughtful. Every word counts. Once complete, copy and paste the description into the description box.

3. Keywords. Keywords used to be an important factor in helping search engines discover and rank a page. Since 2013, major search engines no longer place much weight on them. Complete this section, but it won't be of much help. If you need help creating keywords, you can use a free service like http://www.metatags.org/meta_tags_cod...
