Blocks and columns play an important role in Launchrock page development. In many ways, they are the pillars that the page rests upon. The problem is, they can be downright irritating to use and learn. But don’t let frustration hold you back from building and launching your page.

To get you up and running, here is the difference between blocks and columns.

Blocks are stacked on top of one another and are horizontal - like a row in a spreadsheet. Blocks can contain either 1 or many columns. That's key, so it's worth repeating: blocks can contain either 1 or many columns.

For example, this block has 1 column that stretches across the screen. The block below it has two columns spaced apart.
Columns are lined up beside one other and are vertical. Plus, they are always contained within a block. That's right - always. In the example, there are two columns - one red, one blue. Each column is vertically aligned to one another.

HERE IS THE BIGGY: When editing a block, there are two choices. The first is to edit the block style as a whole, which will affect all the columns within the block. The second is to edit the style of a particular column.

For example, changing the block padding affects every column. In contrast, a change to column number two only affects that particular column.
(If padding is confusing, our 30-second video on padding vs. alignment might help)

That’s the difference between blocks and columns.

All the best on your landing page.
