The Beatles Rock Band - 15 Years Later… The Beatles Rock Band was released on September 9. If it wasn’t for this game, I wouldn’t be the same person I am today. This game introduced me and thousands of other young minds to a band that I never bothered to listen to. I heard of the Beatles before the commercial for this game aired on TV. But I never really cared for them. I didn’t have a favorite song at the time. I listened to Drake Bell but that’s pretty much it. I was oblivious to the world of music that existed before the 2000s. I always thought the Beatles were an old boy band from the 1940s or something. I never understood why people always said they were the greatest band of all time. I never understood why my grandfather loved them so much and even had a tattoo of them on his arm. I was always under the impression that due to the old technology back in the day, the Beatles sounded like static. Some unknown jazzy boy band that wrote a few good songs. But because of this game, my perception about music changed forever.
In late August, I was at home, watching TV, and the commercial for The Beatles Rock Band aired. The song that played on the commercial was “Come Together” from their 1969 Abbey Road album. I don’t know why, but I instantly fell in love with this song. It was love at first sight, or sound. I couldn’t make out what the lyrics of the song were except for the “Come Together” part. So later that day, I got on the computer, and looked for this song. I eventually found it on some internet playlist. For the next several hours, I would listen to this song constantly. I never got tired of it. I thought it was the greatest song I ever listened to. It felt like hearing music for the first time in my life. Because of that, I would eventually look up the Beatles on Google. To my surprise, they weren’t a boy band from the 1940s with very outdated songs. They were a rock band from the 1960s with a huge catalog of the greatest songs ever written.
Because of this commercial, I would look up random Beatles songs and take a listen to them. I listened to “Can’t Buy Me Love,” I instantly fell in love with it. I then listened to “Help,” I instantly fell in love with it. And then I listened to “Hey Jude,” I instantly fell in love with it. I asked myself where has this music been all my life? I would read countless articles about them. I would stare at their JFK photo for hours on end, trying to imagine what John Lennon and the three other Beatles were thinking at the moment the picture was taken. I even made that picture the wallpaper on the computer. I figured I like four of their songs so it wouldn’t hurt to get the game, which released on 09/09/09. My mum took me to Game Crazy to get me this game. Eventually, she bought me a guitar controller for this game. It was the Rickenbacker 325 since John Lennon was my favorite Beatle at the time.
Thank you, Harmonix…
