00:09 - Introduction:
This is a quick run through on autocad as tutorial is focused on UE4
change slide
A sample of a real life autocad file. But what we will be doing for the purpose of this course is only for 3d modelling.
Use autocad to generate layout file to be used for modelling.
In some companies or workflow, autocad files maybe provided by drafter and archviz artists just focus on creating 3d renderings.
change slide
Generally we start by getting a rough picture or drawing of the layout file given to us by the owner or developer of the building which looks something like this.
You can skip this video if autocad is not required in your workflow. Good to know the basics to get started.

01:47 - Initial Setups:
First we create a new file with no template - Metric. We model in milimeters so we use the metric system.
Go to Options - Display - Colours to change Crosshair colour as some will come with a white crosshair.
Type units on the console and ensure the units we are working in is in Milimeters.
Change line colour by going to the layer properties.
Ensure Ortho Lock and snapping in on.

05:03 - Basic selection in Autocad:
To specify a rectangular selection area, click and release the mouse button, move the cursor, and click again.
To create a lasso selection, click, drag, and release the mouse button.
Select individual objects by clicking them.
Drag from left to right to select all objects that are entirely enclosed in the selection rectangle or lasso (window selection).
Drag from right to left to select all objects that are crossed by the selection rectangle or lasso (crossing selection).
Press Enter to end object selection.

06:37 - Drawing the layout:
Floor Plan is taken from https://www.archdaily.com/907780/mini...
Import the jpeg file by insert- attach

Scaling the object
We will use the main door to scale the jpeg file. Usually the main door is 900 mm in length, so we will draw a 900mm line, and then scale the jpeg picture using the main door, so that when we do the tracing, we can get a scaled layout file.
Use line tool to draw a 900mm line.
Do this by typing line - click on a point - type 900mm - Enter
Use Scaling to scale the jpeg file to the correct size, using the length of the door as reference.
Type scale and use the rectangular select to select the jpeg file. - Enter.
Specify a base point. - Enter
Type R to reference the points of the door, make sure your ortho lock is turned on.
Type P to select the 2 points of the line for our jpeg file to scale according to the line.

10:21 - Trace the Outer/Inner walls:
Use the line tool to trace.
If you have ortho lock and snapping turned on it will be a breeze.
I will only do for the first floor as the second floor is just a rectangle, we dont need to do an additional cad outline for this.
We just create the outer walls and inner walls. For the windows and Doors, we don't need to trace as we will be importing our own models.
The final Cad file will be made available in our gumroad page for use in our next tutorial on 3ds max modelling.
