00:09 - Materials Basic
Go to https://cc0textures.com/view?tex=Bric...
Download the bricks textures, this is the brick textures we use in the project. Import it into Unreal engine.
I will go through some basic nodes in the materials editor. These are the more common ones that I use. I will introduce to you more nodes as and when i create the materials for these project.
-Base Colour
-Metallic
-Roughness
-Emissive Colour
-Normal
-Lerp
-Bump Offset
-Texture Coordinates
09:05 - Creating the Wall bricks textures - Texture coordinates
Before we continue, let's set up the preliminaries to do a quick lighting build
Lightmass importance
Lightmass portal
Box reflection capture
Post processing volume and turn off the exposure
Add a static skylight and do a quick build.
12:41 - I have included a grunge map in the project, this is to make the bricks less repetitive
Texture coordinates with a multiplier and offset control. We want to create these as parameters so we can use instanced materials for the bricks and create many different instances with different UV parameters.
We use the red and green channel to control the size of the offset of the UV coordinates.
15:10 - Creating the Wall bricks textures - Using the bump offset nodes
Attach it to the bump offset node and heightmap
Attach the other nodes like roughness and base material
16:32 - Creating the Wall bricks textures - Creating a normal multiplier
We also create a normal multiplier in case we want to play around with the normal strength.
At this point in time, the bricks look nice but repetitive.
21:03 - Creating the Wall bricks textures - Adding grunge map to remove repetitiveness
We can try multiplying the grunge map on the bricks to see how it looks.
If the grunge looks too black, we can use it as an alpha map, and lerp two brick materials with different colour variation.
Create various material instances to adjust the UV sizes and positions etc.
25:51 - Create black metal for I beam and other steel objects.
use a 0.05 for base
i am happy to use 0.95 for matallic vlue but if you want to use a steel metallness map is also ok
look for asphalt like normal texture to create the rough black painted feel.
create the normal multiplier and a simple texture coordinate multiplier for better control
