One of the reasons this step works so well is because it's slowing you down. You're going to be taking momentary, complete breaks with every single step you take on the trail.

This movement has two phases: The Rest Phase and The Swing Phase.

1️⃣ You want to start with all your weight on your back leg. The front leg has nothing going on and your arms are relaxed.

2️⃣Then straighten the front leg and move your back leg forward. This gives a moment of rest for each leg so you can have a quick moment of recovery.

This method was originally developed for snowy slopes at high elevations, where mountaineers would struggle to get enough oxygen to their muscles at rest, let alone while they were going uphill.

💫 Try taking a breath with each step to keep that oxygen pumping to your lungs and muscles.
