Does your router have DHCP enabled?
It’s important to understand that all home network routers will have DHCP capabilities. This doesn’t necessarily mean that all routers will have DHCP enabled, however.
For example, in some cases you may not want DHCP enabled on your router (e.g. if you are using a second router as a wireless access point).
This is why it’s important to know how to check if your router has DHCP enabled.
How to find out if DHCP is enabled on your router
To find out if your router has DHCP enabled, you need to access your router’s settings.
To do this, you’ll need to access your router’s settings page. You can access your router’s settings page with an internet browser (even if you don’t have an internet connection). The location of your router’s settings page can usually be found on an information sticker on the router itself.
To access your router’s settings page, you’ll first have to log in.
Log in with your username and password for your router’s settings. If you’ve never set up a custom password for your router’s settings, you should be able to find the default username and password by either looking at the informational sticker on your device, or by Googling your router’s make and model.
As an important security note: if you haven’t done so already, make sure you change the default username and password for your router. Doing so will make your device much more secure.
Once you have accessed your router’s settings, the DHCP settings for your router can most likely be found in the Advanced Settings tab. In my case I needed to access Advanced Settings-Network-DHCP server to see my routers DHCP settings.
In the DHCP settings page, it’ll tell you:
-If your router has DHCP enabled
-The pool of IP addresses that your router will assign to devices if DHCP is enabled
-How long devices can reserve IP addresses for (this is called lease time)
-The list of devices that are currently connected to your network and have been assigned IP addresses
Conclusion:
