Here's why your devices' ethernet ports will SURPRISE you

The ethernet ports on my devices
I performed an analysis of the ethernet ports on the different devices that I have in my home network. I was surprised to find out I had multiple devices with ethernet ports rated for 100 Mbps instead of higher-performance 1,000 Mbps ethernet ports. This included my laptop, wireless speakers, printer, and Apple TV.
These findings made me question if I needed to upgrade or replace my devices with slower ethernet ports. I dug into this further to find out what was going on.
As it turns out, these devices don’t have 100 Mbps ethernet ports simply because they don’t need them in order to perform at a high level.
This is the case because performing the most bandwidth-intensive tasks with these devices will never require more than 100 Mbps of internet speed. In other words, 100 Mbps of bandwidth is more than enough for these devices to perform at the highest level. In short, a 1,000 Mbps ethernet port would be overkill for these devices.
With that said, it seems like just about every new device these days has 1,000 Mbps ethernet ports. So if the devices in your home network are newer, they will most likely have 1,000 Mbps ethernet ports.
The bottom line is that even if your devices have 100 Mbps ethernet ports, you don’t have to worry about them limiting the performance of your device.
