It's important to be prepared! There's geopolitical concerns, economic risks - and everyday challenges which can put any of us in an unexpected rough situation. Those of us who have the benefit of living in safe, peaceful communities should not take this for granted. We should make hay while the sun shines, and - to a point - be preppers.
But as with all enthusiast communities, some people take it too far and act like you should be preparing for a zombie apocalypse, or living as if Fallout 4 is going to become reality. The truth is, basic things can go a long way toward improving your ability to weather unexpected setbacks.
Stock up your pantry so you have a few days - or if you're lucky, a few months of extra food. Pay off credit cards. Cut out extra expenses that you truly don't need. Don't try to show off or measure up to others. Keep a reasonably low profile and be private in your affairs. Stay in shape, be active, and don't eat super unhealthy foods.
Remember that no matter how much we prepare for our own wellbeing (and we should) the things that really matter are legacy we pass on to others, and being there to share with people who we trust, value, and respect. Don't be an island! But challenge yourself every day to do something that puts you in just a little bit better spot than you were in before.
