We're All On The Same Side!
There's been a lot of political rhetoric comparing the Left to Communists, or equating the Right to Fascism. But the reality is that both sides of the political aisle in America are more centrist than extremist. We're all liberal progressives - even those of us who identify as conservative.
It's important to disconnect from the rhetoric and realize despite a lot of mud slinging which we throw at each other every four years (which is actually a good thing) our Republic is designed to be a system which never grants any one party absolute power for an indefinite period. No, we're not on the road to communism or fascism.
That doesn't mean that we shouldn't make a big deal out of things that are concerning, when we feel that something is wrong. That's part of the process. But when the votes are in, we should shake on it. Be proud if you won - be humbled if you lost - but remember, it is neither the first nor the last time that we will go through this. And no matter who is in office, there's more going right about America than there is going wrong... and we're all still neighbors at the end of the contest.
