A game can be dead - in the sense that there's fewer players - and it can be Pay to Win - if you're trying to win - but that doesn't mean it can't also be free to play, and a good game to play anyway if it fits your play style.
If you're not a min-maxer, BDO might be a game you can enjoy without putting a lot of money into. And despite lower player counts, if you are a solo casual, the game having a low population doesn't necessarily mean you can't enjoy it anyway.
As a side note, it's not like Pearl Abyss has put the game into maintenance mode. It's still got a roadmap, it's being developed continually, and Crimson Desert - set in the same universe is on the horizon.
But anyways, I thought it's interesting to talk about how a game doesn't have to be perfect to be good - which is a solid reason to give it a go and see for yourself.
