In the blink of an eye, it's summer! Let's celebrate with some irresistible burgers and a crisp, refreshing wedge salad.
(Not that a burger is exclusive to summer, but cooking them on the grill wearing flip flops and a kaftan is.)
A burger, like all sandwiches, is meant to be eaten as a whole. One component must not stand out; instead, burger gurus must consider how all the components work together. Here's how to make sure these Diner Burgers fit the bill:
1: Keep the patties thin for maximum surface area (= maximum searing = maximum flavour) and so the patty doesn't overwhelm each bite.
2. Don't use a cheese that is too flavourful. Your eyes are not deceiving you, I'm recommending processed cheese slices. It should be gooey but not a flavour diva (looking at you, blue cheese).
3. Toppings should not be too texturey. Save the crunch for the salad!
4. Make sure the buns are soft and fairly plain. Crusty multigrain buns are too much!
5. No silly condiments (sorry truffle mayo and pineapple salsa). A hint of sweet (ketchup), a whisper of punch (Dijon) and some thinly sliced salty-sour pickles would work.
Many people like to have fries with a burger. I, however, do not.* I'd rather have a crisp, refreshing salad, and this Wedge is the very one:
