I'm so grateful to have connected with Tayla Lamerton. She is a PhD candidate at the University of Queensland in Australia, who's research explores urinary incontinence in young to middle age women, and more specifically overweight and obesity as risk factors for urinary incontinence (UI).

One of her research papers that caught my attention was exploring the number of women with UI in a fitness club setting, and what avenues they took to seek help as well as the availability to discuss their concerns with a fitness professional. In her research less than 8% of women studied received information about the importance of pelvic floor muscle training in exercise to address these symptoms.

With over 90 million women's fitness club memberships worldwide, and countless women experiencing a variety of urinary and other pelvic floor dysfunction symptoms (e.g. prolapse, diastasis, hypertonic pelvic floor, chronic low back and hip pain), too many women are either given up on their physical health or pushing through these life altering symptoms when help and support is available to eliminate these symptoms.

In talking to Tayla, I'm excited to hear she is continuing her research in this field and the need to bring more awareness and education of pelvic floor muscle training into the fitness industry.
