San Diego: Homicide Investigation 08312024 (UPDATE)

DETAILS:
An altercation occurred between two groups at the 9th Ave & F St intersection. A black male pulled out a gun and fired several shots at another black male, hitting the victim. One group fled the scene on foot, while others called 911.
Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound, and CPR was started. The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased.
The investigation is underway, and there appears to have been an earlier altercation at a bar in the Gaslamp Quarter. The victim is 18 years old (19 next month). We were told he was a U.S. Navy Sailor out with another Sailor at the time of the incidents.
UPDATE:
The victim has been identified as Albert Soto of Queens, New York. Soto was a sailor in the U.S. Navy stationed in San Diego and was described as an 18-year-old Black male.
