A male was taken to Paradise Valley Hospital in National City. The male was suffering from gunshot wounds. It's not clear if the male died at this hospital or was transferred to UCSD Hospital and was declared deceased.
When SDPD was notified, they started to search Chicano Park, where the shooting was reported. They found a car in the parking lot with several bullet holes in the vehicle. The CHP was asked to shut down the on-ramp from Logan Ave to the southbound I-5. The SDPD Homicide Division is taking the scene.
Update:
The Area Detectives from SDPD are at the scene, but the Homicide Investigation is being handed over to the CHP. The shooting may have happened on the I-5 and the victim then drove to Chicano Park.

Homicide Investigation Near Chicano Park
San Diego – An 18-year-old Hispanic man arrived at Paradise Valley Hospital mortally injured from
gunfire. It was determined the shooting occurred on the I-5 South on-ramp from Logan Avenue.
On September 1, 2024, at approximately 2:10 a.m., a vehicle containing several men pulled into Paradise Valley Hospital. The occupants flagged down a San Diego Police Officer, who was at the hospital on an unrelated call. The men directed the officer to an occupant of the car who had been shot. The man was rushed into the hospital and CPR was initiated, but he did not survive. Officers determined the shooting occurred on the I-5 South ramp from Logan Avenue, therefore the California Highway Patrol assumed initial responsibility for the investigation. As CHP conducted their investigation, they developed information that indicated the shots were likely fired from the area of Chicano Park.
Based on this knowledge, San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were called to the scene to continue the investigation. Detectives have established that during the night, San Diego Police Officers from Central Division responded to three separate reports of gunfire in the area of Chicano Park; at 12:12 a.m., 1:08 a.m., and 2:06 a.m. Nothing was found at the park during the first and third call, but during the second call, officers located multiple cartridge casings and a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire several times. Detectives are continuing to investigate this incident, including processing the scene for physical evidence, attempting to locate and interview witnesses, and canvassing the area for surveillance footage. The decedent has been tentatively identified, but his name will not be released at this time pending positive identification and family notifications. Detectives would be interested in any security camera footage from the area that might have captured any of the shootings.
UPDATE:
The decedent has been identified as Juan Carlos Porter of National City. Porter was described as an 18-
year-old Hispanic male.
