Does date night seem too artificial?

“Life gets to busy, especially after you have children! Make sure you schedule a date night just for your selves every week. Protect your relationship just like you protect your children.”
My wife and I received this advice from well meaning couples as well.
That begs the question. Is scheduling a date night “worth the trouble”
Dr. Jordan Peterson lays out why this advice is important to the maintenance of long lasting relationships.
To some the process of “scheduling a date night” may seem “too mechanical” or “too artificial”. I believe the question is answer is simple and goes like this:
“So what is your point? You are absolutely right. It is a little bit mechanical and can seem artificial at times (but only if your heart is not in the right place), but do you have any better idea of how to ensure that we protect our relationship from the business of this world on a regular basis?
