The Mishnah in Pirkei Avot Chapter 1 Mishnah 3 teaches us the valuable lesson of becoming involved in studying the Torah and fulfilling the Mitzvot simply because we are so commanded to do.
Antigonus, a man from Socho tells us that we must serve God as a servant would serve a master. We should not be focused on the rewards we may see -- whether in this world or the next. We should be focused on what counts now, today -- just as a servant would attend to the wishes of his master -- without thinking of the reward.
Life is about doing the right thing because it is right! But what makes right right?! When we acknowledge the Torah and the importance of observing the commandments inside it. Then we become like servants serving the Master of the entire universe. And indeed, when we do this, we bring harmony to the entire world.
Let not one imagine that these laws apply only to the Jewish nation. Indeed, the Torah teaches laws that are applicable to all the nations of the world. And indeed, when all the nations will begin to observe these laws too, the world will begin to find itself in an automatic state of harmony, when in fact, the rewards will be in abundance!
