Stop wasting money on mosquito nets. I made it myself, you can’t tell it from the store bought one!
Mosquito nets, like any thing, have an expiration date. Under the influence of sun, wind, rain, frost, plastic becomes brittle and breaks. And if the cat tore up the mesh, that’s also a problem, or the wind blew the frame in an unknown direction.
The time comes, we need to change the grid. Now the long-awaited warmth has arrived and with it flies and insects have woken up and are trying to fly into the house.
We urgently need a new mosquito net.
We won't buy it, we'll do it ourselves. To do this, you will need budget materials: a cable channel, which costs a penny, and the mesh itself for 200 rubles per meter with a length of 140 cm. I bought 60 cm for my window for 120 rubles.
The cable channel comes in different widths. It is better to take one that fits the existing clamps that are screwed to the frame.
First of all, I measured the size of the frame. I sawed off 4 slats with a metal file. Each edge is strictly 45 degrees. There are special devices for this. I used a triangle, drew a line diagonally, then sawed along it.
Disconnected the cable channel into 2 parts.
First I will glue one frame. Good glue plays an important role here. I have superglue and activator in one set.
For accuracy, I placed a rectangular board. I smeared one part with glue, sprayed the other with activator, then connected both parts.
The glue acts instantly, and in a minute you won’t be able to pull it off with your teeth. To make it even more secure, I glued a plastic rectangle inside each corner.
The next step is to put a mosquito net on top of the frame and snap each side with the second part of the cable channel. But here we had to make each rail a little shorter by 0.5 cm.
I cut out 8 triangles from a plastic mayonnaise lid and glued them to each corner on both sides. Now the frame will definitely not break.
I cut off the excess mesh with a stationery knife.
I glued a strip in the middle of the mesh.
My mosquito net is similar to the original one, if you don’t look closely you can’t tell the difference.
She fit into the window like a glove.
