The Waffen SS Soldier Who Started the Malmedy Massacre
On December 17, 1944, Waffen SS troops under the command of Joachim Peiper murdered over 70 American prisoners of war at a crossroads south of the Belgian town of Malmedy during the Battle of the Bulge.
Who started the shooting that led to dozens of POWs being killed? Using trial documents from 1946, it seems one Georg Fleps was responsible . Yet many blame the POWs themselves as they claim they tried to run away. The evidence says otherwise.
