This particular painting by anatomy artist, Alex, is showcasing the deeper structures of the lower back. We haven’t showed many of these muscles in a painting before.
We also show a small disc herniation + the nerve irritation that can be associated with it.
I myself had a 10mm disc herniation at L4/L5 and am well acquainted with how sciatica feels. I am also well versed in the suffering that accompanies such an injury, such as an inability to perform basic tasks like going to the bathroom, walking, and sleeping. People often become concerned with their inability to work out due to an injury, but some of us have been in a place where that is the least of our worries.
