Do you find that no matter how much you stretch your hip flexors you still feel tight? Wait, time out… do you know what the hip flexors are? The hip flexor muscles flex the thigh and torso toward one another. (Closed chain would be the torso moving toward the thigh and open-chain would be the thigh moving toward the torso.) There are a lot of hip flexors but the most commonly known ones are the psoas, iliacus, rectus femoris, TFL (tensor fascia latae), etc. ⁣

Stretching can feel good at the moment but you may want to shift your focus to strengthening work for the hip flexor and see if that relieves some of the “tight” sensations you are feeling. ⁣

This is the first of two posts. This one will focus on strengthening the hip flexor muscles in their lengthened position. Strengthening in both shortened and lengthened positions is going to give you the most bang for your buck because you use these muscles in both positions. Generally speaking, we think it’s a great idea to strengthen the body in as many positions and ranges as possible. ⁣
