The Myth of Pyramus and Thisbe
In this lecture we think about the myth of Pyramus and Thisbe, focusing in particular on: (i) the story of the myth as it is told in Ovid’s Metamorphoses; (ii) the setting of the story in Babylon, and its relation to the legendary figures of Ninus and Semiramis; (iii) other versions of the myth of Pyramus and Thisbe; and (iv) the reasons why Ovid’s version of the myth has become so definitive.
