WP Engine - Properly Redirect Domains (to avoid SEO penalties)
If you're using WP Engine's managed WordPress hosting platform, there is an important part of your domain setup that you might have missed. You could receive SEO duplicate content penalties if you don't set your domains up correctly.
WP Engine automatically creates your site on a subdomain of wpengine.com (yoursite.wpengine.com). This is fine for development, but you don't want people (or Google's search engine) to access this site once you go live at yoursite.com.
Also, if you've chosen to go with www.yoursite.com, you don't want Google to index yoursite.com (without the www). You want everything to redirect to only 1 version of your domain... again, to avoid SEO duplicate content penalties.
