How to Scale Images in WordPress
Learn how to scale an image in WordPress (aka: make an image smaller without changing it's overall appearance). Great for reducing file size & increasing performance.
What does it mean to “scale” an image?
reduce the overall size, but retain the aspect ratio
all visual parts of the image remain intact
reduce the file size, which improves site performance
IMPORTANT!
Always scale your image first, before making any other edits to it. This is why we cover scaling first.
Change Either the Width or the Height
When scaling an image, you will enter EITHER a smaller width or a smaller height. WordPress will automatically calculate the other value for you.
Remember: You can only scale images down, not up. It’s a good practice to work with large, high-resolution images, and use WordPress (or another image editing program) to scale them down, as needed. Higher resolution images are useful for other things outside of your website, so it’s good to have them on hand.
