"Grimoire" (Demon) by vegtam [All Coins] | Geometry Dash 2.2
vegtam has been making some banger levels recently, so when I heard he had released a Halloween level, I knew I should check it out quickly. It was definitely worth it. This has the same kinda clean art style we've already seen from him in the past, but this time with a spookier theme, naturally. I really like how dynamic this level is thanks to lots of movements and effects throughout the entirety of the level. This matches the intense song really well. I was kinda waiting for a bossfight to appear in this level too, but the "boss" art in the background is really good on its own.
As for the gameplay, this reminds me quite a lot of "The Incinerator". Like I mentioned, the song is quite intense and the gameplay matches this at the climax. It has lots of parts requiring fast clicks, similar to that level. Additionally, there is also a fast dual part present here, which is of course also reminiscent of that. These similarities are not a bad thing to me, though, as I found "The Incinerator" quite enjoyable. This is pretty much around the same difficulty too, so it will surely be an Easy Demon once rated.
COIN RATING
Overall: Gold. 3/4. There is only one coin this level, which ties in really nicely to the level theme, while also being original. It can also be tricky to figure out at first. However, it doesn't really add much difficulty to the main route, which could've been a small improvement.
1st Coin: Gold. At 0:13, you lose your soul as you go down, as seen by both the little blue cube effect and the sign on the right. If you continue and beat the level in the normal route, you are bound to die and go into the grave at 1:18 to end off the level. However, in the coin route, you liberate another soul at 0:15 by dying for the potion collectable, which toggles on "A stronger spirit is nearby" at 0:25 in your future attempts. Now, the soul you liberated can be collected in the wave part, seen at 0:36 in this video. This soul is randomized between a few different placements in this wave part, but most of them are quite easy. After grabbing it, you get a glowy effect and particle trail, and if you beat the whole level, you can avoid going into the grave at the end and grab the coin. I really like the concept of dying to toggle the coin, especially since it's tied into the theme by using souls. This makes the coin very original. Grabbing the potion and soul is quite easy, though, and it actually makes the ending slightly easier due to one less orb.
