In recent years, we've gotten quite familiar with mid-cycle-life console refreshes from the likes of Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft. Going all the way back to the Original Nintendo Entertainment System, manufacturers have re-released models over the years that generally refine the platform, reduce costs, and sometimes improve features. Sony was long rumored to release a PlayStation 5 Pro, the first leaks wound up being the PS5 Slim, but now the PS5 Pro is here. This announcement has gone over as well as a fart in church, something I am ashamed to admit I have done, but it also shows that Sony is potentially tone-deaf and has lost their senses to the market and economy right now.

Key Features:
Upgraded GPU: 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory.

Advanced Ray Tracing: More powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.

AI-Driven Upscaling: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro Game Boost: Applies to more than 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games.

So those are some interesting features, but the $700 price tag is a huge no for many people. Add into that cost an additional $80 if you want to use a physical disc drive because the PS5 Pro, out of the box in its standard configuration, is DIGITAL ONLY! So all those extra PS4 features and game enhancements are worthless if you have physical PS4 Games.

While I am a fan of the DualSense controller, the sticks are terrible and suffer from Stick Drift. As such I would have hoped that the PS5 Pro would include the DualShock Edge controller, but it doesn't. That's very unfortunate, as is the fact that you have to buy a Vertical stand separately for this system!

To me this is a huge miss and at this point why would you buy a PS5 Pro over a decent Gaming PC or Steam Deck? The worldwide economy is terrible right now, the US is in another recession, and they're charging a ton of money for a device that doesn't do anything drastically different that the average end user will take advantage of? This is a huge miss to me but let me know your thoughts. Do you plan on buying a PS5 Pro? Do you have a standard PlayStation or a PS5 Slim? Share your thoughts in the comments.
