3 MUST PLAY Games For The Nintendo 64: The Force is With You
It may be hard to believe but the Nintendo 64 turns 28 years old this year. Over the years I have played some good games, some great games, and Superman 64. With the system’s birthday coming later this month, I thought it would be fun to look at 3 games I highly recommend for the system, and interestingly enough they all come from the same franchise. So may the Force be with you as we look at 3 terrific Star Wars based N64 games I think you need to play if you’re fans of the franchise.
Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer
This is such a fun game, with announcers and characters from The Phantom Menace everywhere. While not required this does take advantage of the extra RAM offered by the N64 Expansion Pak for better graphics, draw distance, and visual performance. One of the best things about this game is that it’s not very expensive for the N64, plus you can get it on modern consoles now thanks to Aspyre!
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
This is a series we need a return of as it is simply amazing and it started here on the N64. In this game you fly over and through the Death Star over Yavin, you go on escort missions, and overall get to fly some of the most bad ass craft in the Star Wars universe. This is one of my favorite games anywhere, and it plays great on the Nintendo 64.
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
Before Disney bought and ruined the Star Wars universe, Shadows of the Empire was one of the most interesting stores in all of the Expanded Universe. You play as Dash Rendar, a definite Han Solo inspired character even down to flying a YT freighter. Here you battle
against famous villains such as IG-88, Bossk, and other titular characters as you try to get a win against the empire. This is a 3rd person view, which was interesting for the time. I would love to see a remaster or even a sequel to this as this is an incredibly fun game (with a less than stellar camera).
