► Scent Profile:
The smell of Frankincense Boswellia carterii essential oil can be described as aged wood, balsamic, subtly sweet with hints of citrus, Herbaceous, musky, earthy, and resinous.

► Chemical Composition:
Boswellia carterii essential oil is roughly composed of 44.66% Alpha-Pinene, 10.79% Limonene, 9.21% Octyl acetate, 8.27% Alpha-Thujene, 4.55% beta-Caryophyllene, and other chemicals in smaller amounts.

► Cognitive & Nootropic Effects:
The essential oil of Boswellia carterii has a calming effect that I attribute to limonene, and a cognitive-memory enhancing effect that I attribute to its Alpha-Pinene content.

Alpha-Pinene works by increasing the amount of Acteylcholine available for the brain neurons to use, much like how nicotine works to improve brain function, LTP, memory & learning.

The combination of Alpha-Pinene and limonene is a good one. It's not a straight up stimulant that will make you go scatter brained with too high of a dose, like caffeine. And its not so sedating/relaxing that you fall asleep or that you can't focus while you work. Much like green tea and L-theanine is a great combo because of its balance between sedation & stimulation, Alpha-Pinene and limonene similarly balances sedation and mental stimulation.

This makes Boswellia caterii essential oil a potentially great cognitive enhancer that will help you quickly comprehend the information that you are working with help you focus on what you are doing.

► Method of Application:

I personally directly apply drops of Boswellia carterii essential oil to my skin; but you can't do that. Like other essential oils, it is advised to dilute the essential oil before you try using it for topical application; a 1% dilution is good.

Another way you can use the Boswellia carterii essential oil is in aromatherapy; in a 100ml essential oil diffuser you would want to add about 6-7 drops of Boswellia carterii essential oil.

Although the best method is to directly burn the frankincense gum-resin on a hot coal.
