So in this video, I show you how to make a noisy fan-based mini fridge silent by changing out the noisy fan for a silent one. The fan used in the mini fridge is a 80mm x 80mm x 20mm pc fan. I switched with a pc fan with the same dimensions, except it had a thickness of 25mm. A pc fan with 25mm thickness will fit, but it will be a tight fit. You may also need to attach it to the back cover of the fridge with a bit of glue from a hot glue gun or the like, because the extra thickness means that the original screws of the previous fan will not fit. If you get a different pc fan with a thickness of 20mm, this won’t be an issue.

So I performed the fan-switch operation on a freezerless fan-based mini fridge. I believe it uses a condenser coil underneath or attached to the heatsink I showed in the video. It cools the heatsink with the colder air of the room. The heatsink actually gets quite hot because it is sucking out the cold temperature in the fridge. You need the fan to work for the cooling to work as the circulating air helps also cool the compressor and refrigerant in the condenser coils. If the fan stops, then the temperature in the fridge will rise while the compressor overheats. This would cause the food to spoil, or whatever you are storing in the fridge to be warmer than you want.
