Neil Simon's "Murder by Death" is a parody on whodunits, such as those by Agatha Christie, featuring send-ups of famous fictional detectives. Several of these are invited by the mysterious Lionel Twain to a "dinner and a murder" with a million dollar reward for whoever solves the crime. Twain is the one seemingly bumped off and each of the sleuths confess to having a motive while denying they committed the murder.
This clip begins with James Coco as 'Milo Perrier' (spoofing Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot) revealing his own motive and Peter Sellers as 'Sydney Wang' (based on the Chinese detective Charlie Chan) questioning the motive of 'Sam Diamond' (Colombo's Peter Falk doing a Humphrey Bogart impersonation as Sam Spade in "The Maltese Falcon"). His secretary (played by Eileen Brennan) reveals Sam's dubious motive and Elsa Lanchester (as Jessica Marbles, otherwise Agatha Christie's Miss Marple) announces that it is time to go bed. A very funny film well worth watching for a cast that also includes Alec Guinness, David Niven and Maggie Smith.
