Fritz Reiner was Hungarian born but it was in America that he made his career. He has become most widely known for his association with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra with which he made a series of highly praised recordings in the late 1950s / early 1960s. He also featured in some early TV broadcasts which now look very archaic but are still worth seeing for their historic interest. In this transmission from 1954, Reiner conducts the CSO in 'The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' from Handel's oratorio "Solomon."
