Halvorsen 'Entry of the Boyars' - Earl Bernard Murray conducts the Hollywood Bowl Symphony
This march is probably the best known piece by the Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen (1864-1925). It began life as stage music and went on to become the signature tune for a Norwegian radio programme. It comes from a 1961 'Capitol' LP devoted to popular Scandinavian pieces in which the Hollywood Bowl Symphony was conducted by Earl Bernard Murray. He held posts with several US orchestras but took early retirement from conducting around the time he made this recording and seems to have made no others.
