I've recently been testing out my new Great Joy 50mm Anamorphic lens with with Sigma FP as I wanted to see how well the lens works on full frame. When shooting full-frame with this lens there are some differences compared to shooting with Super 35mm. Firstly, the field of view is obviously much wider and there is some slight vignetting on the outer horizontal edges of the frame. But this isn't an issue as when the image is de-squeezed in Davinci Resolve the outer edges are cropped off.
Secondly, the lens flares are much prominent on full-frame, when shooting into the sun I was able to produce some really unique lens flares with plenty of character. This really surprised me as many modern lenses lack character and don't produce flares like this. If you look at the Sirui anamorphic lens flares they are quite flat in comparison.
Overall the character of this lens is really impressive, especially combined with the colour science of the Sigma FP. When colour grading the footage in Davinci Resolve I used the Blackmagic Film colour space and gamma for a nice, natural film look. It didn't take much grading to make the footage look great, which is the best thing about the FP!
Many of the shots you see were shot directly into the sun. With these shots I managed to lift the shadows in post and bring out the detail in the silhouettes of the man's face. With 10 Bit CDNG there is plenty of dynamic range to do this. Also, I didn't have a model at the time so I had to film myself for this entire video.
