In this video, I test the DJI Google v2 with different antennas to seek out the best video performance.
I also compare the performance of the DJI Air Unit to the DJI FPV Drone using these v2 Goggles.
The flight test include a range test and also penetration thru hillside and trees, a typical scenario when flying in the mountains.

(all footage is DVR from Goggles - see note at bottom of this description)

Timeline:
0:00 Intro
0:15 Air Unit - Stock Antennas
3:40 Air Unit - iFlight Stubbies
7:02 Air Unit - iFlight Crystal HD + Stubbies
10:24 DJI FPV - Stock Antennas
14:08 DJI FPV - iFlight Stubbies
17:28 DJI FPV - iFlight Crystal HD + Stock
20:33 Bonus: DJI FPV - 2.4ghz Stock

Version 2 of the DJI Goggles has changed a few things.
a) Stock antenna are now LINEAR, not LHCP
this causes a mismatch with the Air Unit BUT matches the DJI FPV Drone
Does this make a significant difference?

b) Antenna usage
the googles antennas are now used differently, moving to 2 transmit and 2 receive (on opposite corners)
Does this affect usage of patch antennas like the iFlight Crystal HD?

c) Goggles are now Dual Band (2.4 ghz and 5.8ghz)
The DJI FPV support both bands, but the Air Unit is only 5.8ghz
Since the v1 Goggles were 5.8 ghz only, most 'improved' antennas are single band only.
Can these safely/effectively be used on the Goggles v2 (assuming you force to 5.8 ghz mode)

These tests flights are designed to explore these questions, and also answer things like...
Could I run the DJI FPV drone on 5.8 ghz only, so I dont have to keep switching antenna?

Test Parameters

Air Unit/DJI FPV/ Goggles are :
set to 25 mW (CE mode)
this enables us to compare over shorter distances - increasing power would simply increase everythings performance.

set to 5.8 ghz mode
so testing is comparitive
(except 'bonus run' where we see what 2.4 ghz provides)

set to have focus mode on.
this enables us to see breakout nicely on the edges

set to HQ (not low latency)

I keep my head (as much as possible) in the same position

Test Flight:
a) Initial flight is out 1km, in clear line of sight, no obstructions, pretty level to the take off point.
b) I then fly back, then dive down into the valley, this starts creating some form of obstruction, partial blocking via hillside and also trees.
c) I come back up the mountainside, then run across at 90 degrees, fairly low, again blocking with trees.
d) Back to the top, and then a short run behind me thru the trees, and back

a) is a range test
b/c ) are designed to test penetration
d) is to see difference between omni and directional antenna

other notes:
Air Unit shows stats as subtitles. Unfortunately this is not available on the DJI FPV, so instead I kept a log during the run
The Signal Strength (top left), is a subjective indicator, looking at the average at the time, and notes from my audio log during the flight.

Setup used for tests:

DJI FPV Googles - version 2
(same pair used for all tests)

Antennas tested:
DJI Stock Antenna (v2 - dual band)
iFlight Stubbies (5.8 ghz)
iFlight Cyrstal HD (5.8 ghz)

Drones Used:

5" Freestyle:
Frame : Diatone Roma F5
Flight Controller: Tmotor F7 HD F55A PRO II.
Motors: F60 PRO IV V2\
Props : Tmotor 4943.
DJI Air Unit - Stock Antennas
Crossfire Nano
GPS : Beitian BN-2020.
Battery: 6s 1300mAh

Controller: Radiomaster tx16s + Crossfire micro v2

DJI FPV:
Combo kit - set manually to 5.8gHz , except bonus test, manually set to 2.4ghz
(40mhz)

Note: Ive noticed on uploading the video seems quite a bit more 'compressed' (blotchy) than the DVR that came from the Air Unit or DJI FPV, both where very clean.
however, I think the breakup is still pretty clear in the video.
