If the family of a 13-year-old shot and killed inside the Alderwood Mall in early July gets their way, Washington will get tougher on juveniles who commit serious crimes, such as murder.
In an emotional plea, the mother of Jayda Woods-Johnson called on lawmakers to enact "Jayda's Law" outside Brier Terrace Middle School Monday where her daughter would have entered the 8th grade on Sept. 4.
Jayda was shot in the back of her right shoulder as she and a friend were leaving the mall's food court. She died on the way to the hospital.
