So, let me just start this off by saying that I'm doing something a little different with this video. Normally I embed my commentary here, but decided to do within the video this time (don't worry, I'm not embedding it during the opens themselves). I figured it would be easier to react to everything in real time (it'll make sense once you watch!).
This is otherwise a montage of opens taken from Tuesday, January 24, and Wednesday, January 25 on the CBS affiliates in the Traverse City/Cadillac/Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan market. The station is owned by a Heritage Broadcasting Company of Michigan.
Why wax this taken across from two days? Watch the video and find out! (I don't want to give it all away)
Included are Tuesday's 5.00, 5.30, 6pm, and 10pm opens, a bump from the noon show, Wednesday's noon, 5.00, 5.30, and 6pm opens, and a bonus segment: the first couple of minutes from "The Four" where the hosts discussed the new look and website in detail (which was not addressed on other newscasts). Ironically, they are discussing the change on a show that did not have any other changes to its graphics and music.
Anchors are David Lyden, Bill Froelich, Kevin Essebaggers, and Eric Brazeal (who just joined The Four a couple of weeks ago).
Not something I noted in the video but an observation I made: all of their weekday anchors (I didn't bother looking at weekends) are all males, with the exception of their weekday morning co-anchor (who was off this week, and who I'm also surprised has stayed with 9&10 as long as she has).
Surprised they don't have at least a female on deck weeknights to break it up a little bit. To be fair, they did have way more females until very recently, and a good amount of them were poached by national news network NewsNet within the last year ("News As It Used To Be!", so the opposite of what 9&10 is trying to do). I am pretty sure the station is looking to bring more women on board in anchoring roles (this was brought up on "The Four's" Facebook page when Brazeal's addition was announced) but wouldn't be surprised if they've faced the same issues everyone else has in trying to recruit new broadcast news talent. And they don't have the same resources to recruit compared to a large broadcast group.
Then again, there are some stations that have almost all female anchors and only like one or two males, so I guess this balances out lol.
Special thanks to news89 for the tip!
