WLUK Fox 11 News Good Day Wisconsin Open & Promos, 9/1/2021

News open, talent bump-out, promos, and sponsor bumps taken from the Wednesday, September 1, 2021 edition of Good Day Wisconsin, the morning newscast on Green Bay, Wisconsin's Fox affiliate owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group. WLUK also serves Appleton and the Fox Cities.
WLUK is currently a solid runner-up to WBAY in Titletown for one reason only: the Packers, whose games air on WLUK as part of Fox owning the rights to the NFC of which the Packers play in. The smallest media market to have an NFL team means that the stations in the market generally tend to have more resources and a larger market attitude than their counterparts in similar sized DMAs. Pre-Fox, this station had issues establishing an identity that placed them in third behind WFRV (who has since settled in third). Under Fox, they've definitely established a strong identity. They also have a stable news team now too and have since the mid-2000s, allowing them to secure their strong second place standing (pre-Fox, they had issues retaining talent).
WLUK currently uses the positioning statement "Balanced News and Severe Weather Coverage". Before you get ideas, it pre-dates Sinclair ownership and actually began use under Emmis in 2005 or so, inspired by the Fox News Channel of course. They tend to misuse it, much like WBAY does with their "First Alert" brand. For example, "Balanced Back to School Coverage" in the ID. Like, is it even possible to have imbalanced coverage of going back to school? Makes no sense.
The graphics are Sinclair's standard group package which is to be expected. However, we have a pleasant surprise for music. They deviate from the Warner Chappell composed Sinclair group theme and retain Aerial from Stephen Arnold Music (in use since 2012, long before Sinclair came into the picture). Not sure how they managed that. They've even switched to updated cuts in the past year on the morning show. Jim Cutler is the voiceover for the station (another oddity for Sinclair). But I guess Sinclair feels they shouldn't mess with what works given how well the station does in the market. They also don't use Sinclair's modified version of the Fox network graphics the rest of their affiliates do for syndicated program endtags, opting for the standard template provided by the network (also odd for Sinclair). Cutler also voices non-news promos as well (super odd for Sinclair because they usually like to have their news voice only do news and have a separate voice for syndicated promos).
Anchored by Rachel Manek, Pete Petoniak (who also serves as the meteorologist), and traffic anchor Melissa McCrady. Gabriella Premus is the on-location reporter. Emily Deem is usually the third anchor for the show but had the day off.
