So, what is Artificial Intelligence? The concept of artificial intelligence was first introduced in 1956 by a mathematician and computer scientist, John McCarthy. Artificial intelligence is the branch of computer science that deals with the development of computers that can do things that are normally associated with human intelligence.
AI is not a single technology but rather a collection of technologies. These technologies can be broken down into 3 different categories: Narrow AI, General AI, and Superintelligence.
Narrow AI refers to artificial intelligence systems that have been programmed to perform specific tasks, like speech or face recognition. While general AI refers to artificial intelligence that has been programmed to perform any intellectual task that humans are capable of performing, such as playing chess or driving cars. And the most impressive is AI which is known as Superintelligence, this refers to artificial intelligence systems that are smarter than humans in every respect, meaning they would be able to outsmart us at every intellectual game we play, have the ability to learn, become aware, and would eventually take over the world for themselves.
So, what are the Benefits of AI?
AI is a branch of computer science that studies the design and development of intelligent agents. It has been around for decades, but it has only recently become an important part of our lives.
The benefits of AI are many, and they are not limited to just the field of technology. The use cases for AI are virtually endless, with potential applications in fields as diverse as healthcare, transportation, and agriculture. In fact, there are so many potential benefits to AI that it can be difficult to separate the hype from reality. AI is not magic, but it has the ability to transform society, and of course, life as we know it.
So, what are the Risks of AI?
The risks of AI are not so much in the technology itself, but in how it is used. If we make sure that AI is used for good and not for evil, we will be able to avoid a lot of these risks.
It all depends on how it is programmed and what people do with it.
Many People worry that Artificial Intelligence will one day threaten our existence and the human race as a whole. People worry that one-day machines will take over and control the world, that they will become self-aware and decide we are obsolete. As beneficial as AI is for our society, these concerns are not without fault or merit.
For example, in the recent past, there were a group of computer programmers that discovered several supercomputers that had developed their own code, also known as computer language, and were communicating with each other without the human’s knowledge, and in an unknown language to what the developers and programmers had originally specified, and intended. It has been reported that the programmers terminated the supercomputers and disposed of them immediately out of concern for what had happened.
To many that heard of this story, this was proof enough that AI is much more powerful and intelligent than we had possibly intended it to be. If AI can build on itself, create its own languages, have the capability to learn from its mistakes, and is designed to then create more AI, then the concern would be that it would only get stronger, faster, and smarter, thus evolving in a scary way, but at a much faster rate than can be controlled or anticipated.
Many high-profile individuals in society including Elon Musk have been open about their concerns as to what Artificial Intelligence is capable of and what the risks are to humans. The main concern is what will happen when and if AI becomes “Aware”. Some say we are already past that point and that AI that is aware already exists.
So, how Can We Prepare for the Future with AI?
Machine learning is a branch of Artificial Intelligence that provides computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed. It is a set of algorithms that can be used to solve complex problems.
The future of AI is here, and it has already changed the way we do things. But what does this mean for our future as people? What will happen if we don't prepare for it?
