First it is important to understand what the Ocean is.
The ocean is a natural body of water that covers over 70% of the Earth's surface. It has a salinity level of 3.5% which is about 35 times that of freshwater lakes and rivers. The ocean has a depth range of up to 11,000 meters and is the largest reservoir on Earth.

The ocean covers more than 70% of Earth's surface and is the largest reservoir on our planet. It can be divided into five main regions:

1) The Pacific Ocean

2) The Atlantic Ocean

3) The Indian Ocean

4) The Arctic Ocean

5) The Southern Ocean

Fact 1. The Ocean is the Largest Body of Water on Earth
It covers about 71% of the earth's surface. It is estimated to contain 97% of the earth's water.

What makes up the ocean?

The ocean consists of many different types of water, including saltwater and freshwater. The saltwater that we are familiar with is usually found in seawater, which makes up about 97% of all water on Earth. The other 3% comes from freshwater sources like rivers, lakes, and groundwater.

Fact 2. The Ocean is Home to More than 70% of All Life on Earth
This is because the oceans are the largest part of our planet. The ocean is also important because it has a lot of different types of habitats and ecosystems.

The ocean has an average depth of 12,000 feet, but if you include the seabed, it reaches as deep as 36,000 feet below sea level. It’s a very dark place with little light that reaches the bottom and most life in the ocean lives near the surface.

Fact 3. The Ocean Provides Us with Food and Energy
It is an important part of our ecosystem and we need to take care of it.

The ocean is a vast resource that we need to take care of because it provides us with food, energy, and jobs. Some of the ways in which we can do this are by reducing pollution, harvesting the ocean's resources in a sustainable way, and making sure that all countries have access to the benefits from the ocean.

Fact 4. The Ocean is a Major Source of Oxygen for Earth's Atmosphere
2/3rds of the oxygen in our atmosphere is created by marine life, while 1/3rd is created by land plants.

This means that without the oceans, we would have a much more difficult time breathing and living on Earth.

Fact 5. There are still many areas of the ocean that remain unknown and unexplored to this day.

Some of the greatest mysteries in the world are found in the oceans. There are still many areas that have never been explored and remain largely unknown to this day. The process of exploring and surveying these unexplored regions is called marine geology, and it is a very difficult task because of the immense size of these underwater lands.
