TEXT:
Let's say that we'd like to change the color of that car. Lock the picture layer and make a layer on top of that. Find a spot where there are no reflections that you think would represent the actual color of the car the best. Using the eyedropper tool and its function to sample multiple pixels at once for higher accuracy, we'll sample the original color of our object. Now, draw a sample of that color into our new layer and then lock the layer and create a new one on top of that. Choose a color which you'd like to change the original color into and draw a circle next to the original one - make sure that the circles overlay each other and that they are both in separate layers. Create a hue and saturation layer between the two circle layers. Change hue, saturation, and lightness until the colors of two circles match, just like that. You can hide the circles for now and fill the mask of the hue saturation layer with black to hide the effect. From here on, the whole point is to mask the object out of the background one way or another and apply that to the mask. You can simply follow the way I'm doing that right here, where I use the brush tool with the white color in the mask to reveal the changes we made in the hue saturation layer. The more time that you spend on that, the better the end results will be, but here is a quick mask I did for this car. You can make further adjustments by adding other adjustment layers on top of the hue saturation layer, like the brightness and curves layer I added for this example. Simple as that, changing colors can actually be pretty fun.
