Welcome out on another disused railway explore.
This time, I’m in North East Nottinghamshire, and I am walking a section of the former Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway that ran from Chesterfield to Lincoln.
The section I am walking, is between the villages of Fledborough, and Clifton-on-Trent.
The river Trent splits the two stations, and is crossed by the unbelievable 59 arch Fledborough Viaduct.
The railway was built in 1896, and closed to regular passengers in 1955. Despite the early decline of the stations, there are plenty of remains to be found.
The Trent Valley was once known as ‘Megawatt Valley’ because of all the powerstations that once lined the Trent. One of them, High Marnham, was built next to Fledborough station, and we’ll explore the huge coal sidings off this powerhouse.
I hope you enjoy this short jaunt along the very quiet and scenic railway line, through the Nottinghamshire countryside.
