ADDIE is an instructional design framework that stands for Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation.

It was developed by the US Department of Defense in the 1970s to help them train soldiers in new skills. It has since been adapted to be used in educational settings as well.

The ADDIE framework helps you to plan your instruction around the learner and their needs using the following steps:

Analysis is the first step of the ADDIE process. In this step, you'll be looking at what kind of learning your learners need and why they need it. You will also look at who your learners are and what kind of environment they'll be learning in.

Once you've got that information, you can move on to designing your instruction. Here you'll decide what your instructional materials should look like and how they should be organized. You'll also develop strategies for delivering those materials to your learners in an effective way.

Development is all about making sure that everything you designed in the Design phase works well with the technology available—and if possible, incorporating new technologies into your instructional design plan so that it's more engaging for your learners!

Implementation is when everything actually gets put into practice. This phase also involves any testing that might be necessary before launching your finished product into full production.

Finally, we come to Evaluation: evaluating how well our Instructional Materials performed against our original goals for learning outcomes.

ADDIE makes creating eLearning projects more effective because it is a systematic approach to instructional design. It helps project managers, designers and developers to stay focused and organized during the creation process.

CURIOUS ABOUT THIS VIDEO? HERE'S THE CREATIVE PROCESS

I was super excited to leverage some industry-standard tools to quickly put together this explainer video about instructional design basics. To accomplish this, I leveraged a couple of corner-cutting techniques.

First, I used copy.ai to create the script. I simply punched in a couple of keywords, and AI pieced together a few different scripts. Wild, huh?!

Secondly, I imported these scripts into an auto-voiceover tool called MURF. MURF has tons of professional voiceover options and I picked one that was upbeat. It sounds an itty bitty robotic in a couple of sections, but overall, the quality is impressive. I highly recommend using MURF for an easy way to create voiceover!

Lastly, I put this explainer together using Canva's video editing feature, which is one of my favorite new tools for creatine easy explainer videos for instructional design projects I'm working on. I added some music from Storyblocks, and voila! The end product was created.

I look forward to building even more quick snippet videos like this one using techniques like this, and I hope anyone who may be building explainer videos for their eLearning projects and roles can glean some inspiration from this technique and these tools.

Enjoy!
