This is one of my favorite design hacks, and it's a great tip for new instructional designers who are learning how to use PowerPoint for eLearning projects and to create instructional design portfolios.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JPEGS AND PNGS?
If you're curious about the difference between JPEGs and PNGs, you aren't alone. Learning file types is one of the first things new instructional designers and new eLearning developers tend to find confusing.
JPEGs are a type of graphic file type that have solid backgrounds.
PNGs are a type of graphic file type that have transparent, or semi-transparent backgrounds.
PNGs tend to be bigger files, as they don't lose any of their data when they're compressed. This makes for crisper images!
However, what do you do when all you have to use is a JPEG with a solid background?
It's easy to remove the background from a JPEG using PowerPoint, which means you can use that same graphic just like you would a PNG.
This is awesome for layering compositions.
