Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to another edition of the Android News Byte.
Many people were surprised when the 2024 Google Pixel lineup was launched without the next version of Android.

The company has a history of launching their latest hardware with the newest version of Android.
But that wasn't the case this year.
Some had speculated this was due to Google wanting to bring in more full price revenue before holiday sales hit the market.
While others are wondering if this is a move to show that Google is not giving their own hardware preferential treatment.
Which could have been used against them in current and upcoming antitrust cases.
Either way, Google launched the Pixel 9 series a full month or two ahead of their normal timeframe while they continue to work on the next version of Android.

Android 15 has been in beta testing for most of the year but the company says there is still more work to be done.
Many had hoped we would have seen the update released sometime in September but we have now learned this will not be happening until October.
Exactly when in October has yet to be determined, but some reports suggest this is currently scheduled for around the middle of the month.
This message can be seen on any Google Pixel device that is currently testing the Android 15 beta
So unless there are some unforeseen bugs that appear between now and then, it looks like October is when we can expect to see the first official stable release of the update.
This is also good to know since many of you who are testing the current beta will want to know when they need to opt out so that you will not end up losing your data from switching from the beta to the stable release.
The official source code is said to be made available to the public sometime next week, so that is when we can begin to see work started on custom ROMs that are based on the next version of Android.

The company has confirmed Android 15 will be made available to all Google Pixel 6 series devices, all Pixel 7 series devices, all Pixel 8 series devices, and all devices included in the Pixel 9 series.
We are also said to see this update released for the Pixel Tablet and first generation Pixel Fold as well.

It's been a long beta test for Android 15 but the official stable release is getting close.
I would be curious to learn how many of you have been looking forward to this.
There's been a lot of sentiment within the Android community that the operating system is so mature these days that major updates aren't really big deals anymore.
