I realized recently that I had completely forgotten that the Sequel Trilogy of Star Wars movies even existed. It's not that they were so bad - they just weren't really good in the same way as the original Star Wars films. And it's the same way with a lot of productions. They start out strong, but eventually they start to feel flat… and as the years pass, we forget about them.
The stuff we really remember and cherish throughout our lives is always the content that was a true labor of love, a true passion project born from people who believed in what they were producing on an esoteric, spiritual level. And that kind of quality is rare.
Too often, we find ourselves lingering to support franchises because we love what they used to be - and they piggy back on nostalgia, while actually delivering mediocre experiences which share very little DNA with their original IP. I think it's important in life to let go of things that fall flat so that you can reinvest your time into things that truly invoke a sense of wonder, joy, and excitement for new adventure.
